Objectives of the developers

“Experience from 30 years in cruciate ligament surgery has taught us that only the body’s original ligaments can ensure the physiological movement behaviour and the dynamic stability of the knee joint. It is on the basis of this insight that the technique of dynamic intraligamentary stabilisation (DIS) and the Ligamys implant for the treatment of injured anterior cruciate ligaments were developed.

The treatment involves two main steps. First, the knee joint is re-stabilised with a dynamic spring system (Ligamys implant). This provides the mechanical preconditions for the second step, in which the ruptured stumps are adapted to each other and their healing is facilitated by microfracturing or other biological methods.

We are convinced that this treatment method is becoming an additional alternative to conventional cruciate ligament reconstruction. Conceptually, we understand Ligamys as an extension of conservative therapy. Since no tendon grafts are removed, all treatment options remain open even if the ruptured cruciate ligament fails to heal despite the Ligamys implant. Secondary stabilisation of the ligament always remains possible without reservations. On the other hand, if the ligament heals up successfully, the patient regains a practically fully resilient knee joint without suffering additional damage from the removal of tendon grafts.”The treatment involves two main steps. First, the knee joint is re-stabilised with a dynamic spring system (Ligamys implant). This provides the mechanical preconditions for the second step, in which the ruptured stumps are adapted to each other and their healing is facilitated by microfracturing or other biological methods.
