following Ligamys implantation
Ligamys is a novel treatment method. For optimal rehabilitation, the physical therapy should be adapted to the special characteristics of the implant. Together with the physical therapists Thorsten Müller and Bettina Bertschy, Inselspital Bern, a rehabilitation program was developed for treatment following a Ligamys implantation, which is meant to serve as a recommendation.
It should be borne in mind that the rehab may vary, depending on the severity of the injury. In cases of complex trauma or additional meniscal ruptures, the rehab will be prolonged as individually required.
The main points are mobilisation initially and then, later on, building up strength and improving muscle control in the knee joint. In addition, proprioception (depth sensitivity) is trained, for example using exercises on the trampoline or the balance board. This training should stimulate the nerves of the cruciate ligament to bridge the site of the rupture and resume their original function for precise control of the knee joint muscles.
In general, rehabilitation can begin immediately after the surgery.
